Where each one fits

Day One is stronger when the journal is writing. The free Basic plan includes unlimited text entries, journal templates, search, and end-to-end encryption. Paid plans add more media, and sync across devices. It is built as a long-term written archive, with prompts and templates to keep the habit going.

Yuho fits when the journal is speaking. The recording is the entry. You can talk for a whole walk. Yuho keeps that recording together with the photos you took and the route you walked, and the recordings stay on your iPhone. Core recording, replay, the map, photos, and notes are free. Optional AI transcription and a short recap are extras, paid with credits or a Pro plan.

Voice, in a little more detail

Day One can hold audio, and on iOS it can transcribe a short recording. The entry is still the writing. Transcription is an iOS feature, limited to 10 minutes, and it does not apply to audio you import. On iOS 26 with Apple Intelligence, Day One says transcription can run on the device. Otherwise it uses Apple’s servers and needs an internet connection. Recording is not currently available in the Mac, web, or Windows apps, though those apps can keep audio files you add. On Android, Day One’s own guide notes that a recording can stop while you are walking, and points people to battery settings.

Yuho starts from the other end. Open the app, start talking, and keep walking. There is no hard time limit. Recording and playback work offline. If you want the words later, optional transcription and a short recap are there. They are extras, not the point. Which one to choose

Choose Day One if you want a polished written journal, templates, and the same journal on more than one platform.

Choose Yuho if you think out loud on walks and want the voice, the photos, and the route kept together, on the phone, with the core diary free.
